History
Salzgitter Maschinenbau AG was started in the year 1919. The company was originally founded by Anton Raky, an engineer. Raky was a pioneer in modern drilling and oil drilling technology. The first name of the company was Anton Raky, Tiefbohrungen in Salzgitter.
The cornerstone for SMAG was laid in 1937, when the Salzgitter Group acquired a manufacturing facility for its constructing drilling equipment. During 1986, the company obtained the grab product division from Peiner AG. Immediately after, Peiner was developed into an international brand name in the succeeding years.
